Homeschooler uses hockey to shine
Five-year-old Kelli Blakenship rejoiced at the thought of going to the hockey rink every weekend to play on the team that her father coached. Her adoptive parents wished she was just as enthusiastic about going to school.
“She was always saying her stomach hurts,” said Kelli’s mother, Connie. “Then she started to say, ‘The other kids are making fun of me.'”
Conferences with her teachers and several academic tests followed, revealing that Kelli’s problem was dyslexia. Connie and her husband, Ben, decided they’d home-school their daughter. Read more…
