Homeschooling away from home

A few years ago, Don Beelow and Barb Kukla of Des Plaines watched their son, Garrett, grow frustrated with grade school.

Their two oldest sons had successfully gone through local public elementary and high schools, but the couple wanted to offer an alternate option to their third son. He received A’s in Devonshire Elementary School in Des Plaines, but always came home aggravated.

“It was taking a lot out of him,” Beelow said. “The learning environment wasn’t working for him.”
