Maine Home-schoolers ponder options after judge’s ruling

Paula Stotts has the photographs. Her son, Michael, a junior at the time, dressed in his Eastgate Christian Academy basketball uniform, playing in the Western Maine Class D tournament two years ago.

Sam Pelletier has the awards his children, Samantha and Douglas, have won while competing for Seacoast Christian School in track and cross country.

The Stotts, from Mechanic Falls, and the Pelletiers, from Wells, home-school their children. They want them to compete in athletics at private religious schools, such as Eastgate Christian in New Gloucester and Seacoast Christian in South Berwick.

But unless the Maine Principals’ Association, the state’s governing body for high school athletic competition, changes its rules, that won’t happen anymore. Read more…
