Parent groups, cooperatives assist homeschoolers

POST FALLS — Those who may be considering homeschooling their children might wonder about the cost involved or degree of knowledge required to do an adequate job of teaching one’s own children.

Homeschool parents range in education from high school grads to couples with doctoral degrees. But all seem to agree that if anyone is interested, parents are there to help.

“All you need to homeschool is a high school degree and a high level of commitment,” said Carolin Coad, homeschool mom of five. “You can get everything you need to learn yourself while you are teaching your kids. The books come with answer keys and complete instructions on how to teach each class.”

Interested parents can check out countless informative Web sites and support groups, such as the North Idaho Home Educators Association, to locate affordable materials. Trades, used and even free resources exist, and networking moms make sure everyone knows how to find them. Read more…
