Pierre, SD allows home-school students in activities

Home-schooled students will be able to participate in varsity extracurricular activities offered by the Pierre School District if they follow guidelines expected to be approved by the Pierre School Board.

During its meeting on Monday, the school board voted to accept a suggested policy of guidelines for participating in extracurricular events by home-schooled students. As with other policies, no action to approve the proposed policy will take place until the next month’s board meeting in order to give the public time to review the proposed policy and comment on it. Because school and practices for some school-sponsored sports will start before the Sept. 8 board meeting, the board decided that students taught at home will be able to participate in varsity extracurricular activities before the policy is approved.
