Homeschooling growing in W.Va.

Twelve-year-old Alexandria Bledsoe, left, joins her 10-year-old sister Sarah in doing school work related to West Virginia history on Friday in their Spring Valley home. Both girls are completing classwork at higher grade levels. Alexandria is completing work at the ninth grade level. Sarah is completing work at the sixth grade level.

In a cozy little room painted bright yellow with a Noah�s Ark-themed border at the top, 12-year-old Alex Bledsoe sits at a desk working on Spanish while her sister, Sarah, 10, finishes a West Virginia worksheet.

A dry-erase board is to their left, a large window to the right, a computer and globe of the world behind them, and shelves lined with books complete the room.

The girls don�t have to worry about book bags or lockers or even putting on socks and shoes to learn their lessons — some of the advantages of being homeschooled. Read more…
