For Jay Grubb, any place can be a classroom.

One of his favorites: the storage closet under the stairs of his parents` Cantonment home.

‘We change our environment constantly. We`ll work at the kitchen table a while. Then we`ll move to the patio. Then we`ll read in our fort,’ said Jay`s mom, Bobbi Grubb, pointing to the storage closet.

This is Grubb`s second year to home school. She decided to try it because her energetic son had a difficult time staying focused enough to complete his work at school. Although he made good grades, Jay, 9, found it hard to concentrate.

‘He`d be at school for six hours, then bring home two hours or more of homework because he wasn`t completing his work at school,’ Grubb said. ‘We had no family time because we were spending every evening trying to get his homework done.’ Read more…
