Class is in session at the little wooden schoolhouse
Last fall Scott Smith posed a construction idea to his wife, Maria.
He wanted to build a schoolhouse for their children.
Maria who teaches the children at home, enthusiastically gave him a green light.
‘It took him part of last fall and most of this summer to complete, but he did it all by hand in his spare time,’ Maria said.
The Smith children also helped with the project.
‘We helped Daddy paint, but we got a little messy,’ Morgan, 4, said with a laugh. ‘That paint was going everywhere.’
Maria has home schooled Samantha, 7, for three years at the dining room table in the family’s Palmyra home. The Smiths’ new schoolhouse — made of rough lumber and stained brown with a forest green metal roof — provides room for Maria to have teaching resources at her fingertips and a pleasant, bright little haven to learn.
