Homeschoolers at school

Forrest Barden looks forward to Mondays so he can play games in gym class, perform science experiments and hang out with his new friends.

‘You’re not just stuck at home with mom doing boring stuff,’ he said.

The Pasco 11-year-old doesn’t usually get that much interaction with kids his own age during the rest of the week because he’s homeschooled.

Parents like Forrest’s who homeschool their children are taking advantage of public school dollars. Through the Kennewick School District’s new Mid-Columbia Parent Partnership program, students can take once-a-week classes and get a $400 allotment to put toward their home-based curriculum.
