Homeschooling works some, but not for all

Homeschooling may be unorthodox and unconventional, but it does not draw criticism from local and state educators.

‘There are some good home schools out there,’ said Jim Trader, director of student services and counseling for Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp.

‘It’s one of those things where there’s no right answer to it. For public schools, private schools, home schools – all three can have good arguments for and against,’ Trader said.

Lora Miller, consultant on homeschooling at the Indiana Department of Education, agreed.

‘I think it can be a very good thing for some people, not so good for others,’ she said. Miller said one reason homeschooling has become ‘a far more mainstream option now’ is the growing availability of ‘very reputable’ instructional materials and programs for parents to use. ” Read more…
