Tennessee Home students’ scholarship path may get easier

Students who are taught at home may no longer have to have higher ACT scores to get lottery-funded scholarships.

The Senate Education Committee voted yesterday to require home-schooled students to make a 19 out of a possible 36 on the ACT � which is the same score other students must make to qualify for the scholarships. The ACT requirement for home-schooled students was previously set higher, at 23.

”It’s equitable and just,” said Sen. Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, who sponsored the proposal. It also drops the requirement that home-schooled students score 1060 out of a possible 1600 on the SAT college entrance exam, compared with the 890 required of other students. Read more…
