Supreme Court lets home-school sports decision stand

The state Supreme Court unanimously refused to consider an appeal of a Kanawha County Circuit Court ruling that allows home-schooled students to participate in public school sporting events.

Kanawha County Circuit Judge Duke Bloom ruled on Sept. 23, 2003, that state rules banning West Virginia�s 4,600 home-schooled students from participating on school athletic teams were unconstitutional. Bloom ordered the state Department of Education and the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission to write rules that would allow such students to compete. Read more…
