New ceremony honors grads taught at home

The scene Saturday night was hectic for the 13 graduates honored during a first-of-its-kind ceremony in Hall County.

There were caps and gowns, as well as diplomas. But the experiences of these seniors, all of whom were home-schooled, are a bit different than their counterparts in the class of 2004 at larger, area public and private schools.

The ceremony drew about 75 people to the theater at the Georgia Mountains Center. Amid the commotion of their walk-through, four of the home-school graduates found time to reflect on their high school years.

‘I didn’t miss out on any of the good stuff just because I was home-schooled,’ said Ashleigh Stewart of Gainesville. Read more…
