Home schooling opens for students, parents
A new academic year began Tuesday for most students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District.
But for about 2.5 percent of those students who would otherwise be buying up spiral notebooks, calculators, erasers and pens and pencils last week, the home school experience has opened up more options for them and their parents.
Last year, according to Marianne Hummel, District 11 community education assistant manager in charge of the home educators program, there were 1,054 students representing 504 families who registered for home schooling in District 11.
This is out of a little less than 40,000 students enrolled in the district in grades K-12. Read more…
