For some schoolchildren, there’s no place like home

The 16-year-old sat with his shoulder blades resting on the back of the blue cushioned chair. He wore a red shirt with a long tie, pinned to the center of his shirt collar. His hair was long and matted. He explained why he didn’t like public school. He’s a musician.

‘In public school there’s more homework and less time to practice,’ said Caleb Russell, a high school junior. ‘I needed time to practice.’

Russell plays both the piano and violin and practices for four hours a day. Home schooling is not a new concept for Russell, who was home schooled by his mother Michal Russell until the seventh grade. He later attended Rockford Elementary and Monache High School.” Read more…
