Virginia county cuts funding for special needs homeschoolers

The Winchester Star has a report of how homeschoolers with special needs will now recieve less funding then their public shool counterparts.

Education for some Frederick County families has turned into a fight for their children�s needs � and raised questions about how much cash public schools should give families opting to send their children elsewhere.

Home-schooled or private-schools students with special needs living in Frederick will receive less money for special education services.

The drop has left 26 area families with a gut-wrenching decision on how to provide their children with the same level of care.

About a month ago, Frederick County school officials sent letters home explaining the system�s decision to cut the extra funding it had provided above federal mandates, according to Lynette Johnson, director of special services. Read more…
