Parents form nonreligious group of ‘free exploration’

The DesMoines Register profiles a secular homeschool support group.

Angela Jones Knight in Iowa City started a nonreligious home-schooling support group in 2002.

‘There wasn’t a secular home-school group in Iowa City,’ said Knight, who with a friend formed the Iowa City Home Education Network. Currently, 18 families are involved.

Knight, who has three sons, structures her teaching around her children’s interests. She covers the basics – reading, writing and math – as Tristan, Benjamin and Sebastian freely explore everything from trees to electricity. Read more…
