Home-schooled students may get Texas college funds

With homeschooling being so big in Texas, I would be surprised if this doesn’t happen sooner or later.

A Texas House bill now in committee intends to provide college-bound, home-schooled students with eligibility they currently lack for state scholarships and grants.

Home-schooled students seeking state financial aid, as well as any student of an unaccredited private school, would benefit should the bill pass. An estimated 250,000 to 300,000 students are home-schooled in Texas, according to the Texas Home School Coalition.

The bill would increase the strain on the TEXAS Grant program, which already turns away thousands of eligible students because of insufficient funding, said Ray Grasshoff, public information officer for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Read more…
