Home-schoolers set to hit the stage
This story starts with news of a play but quickly turns into a defense of homeschooling. Pity this happens to so many stories about homeschooling.
ENDICOTT — The historical drama Homefront takes a look at five families in America, Germany, France and England during World War II, the era of Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.
But the historical drama by Davis College history professor Gerald Franz is more than just a play. Its cast is made up of 46 homeschooled teenagers, who might not otherwise participate in a school theater performance.
‘It gives home-schoolers a chance they might not normally have,’ Franz said. ‘They don’t have the normal school drama club or theater. You really learn a lot playing those characters, putting yourself in their shoes. I think they come away with a lot of empathy and understanding for those people.’ Read more…
