Homeschooled 10-year-old going on 20

Most children jump at a chance for real-world responsibilities.

Ten-year-old Sarah Ellen Wideman wait on a tables at her familys restaurant, T.W. Boons.

  1. Thanks for sharing this story – it’s another great example of children learning how to deal with the world and the people in it by actually dealing with the world and the people in it. I’ll be posting as much at my site :)

  2. I was not homeschooled (though I am now a home educator), but grew up working at my family’s fruit stand. Having a job in a family business is an excellent way for kids to learn to contribute to the family and learn life skills.

There were plenty of people who refused to “trust” me to handle transactions, but there were many more who thought it was lovely to be dealing with a member of the family, no matter the age. Good for Sarah!
