New Vermont law eases way for homeschoolers

For Monica Tillas, home-schooling her five kids is a routine she’s gotten used to. After all, she’s been at it 20 years. But doing the homework the state wants her to do to make sure her children meet state standards, well that’s not something she looks forward to.
Like the teachers in public school, she and hundreds of other home-schooling parents around the state are required to file a curriculum of their planned studies for the year. And there’s also an annual assessment at the end of the year. Read more…

  1. The new law has lessened the workload for Vermont homeschoolers and the Dept. of Education, Home Study Department, but it has not in any way increased the freedoms of homeschooling Vermonters. The control and restrictions are just as high, if not higher, than before this new law was enacted.
