“Homeschooling” catches on in the Philippines

A strange hybrid education. Is this really homeschooling? Actually, more like government-run cyber schooling. Why did the editor think to call this homeschooling?
AS STUDENTS GO back to school this month, some of them will not be physically present in the classroom. Instead of the traditional school setting, they will be studying at home, usually in front of the computer. Their guide will not be a teacher, but modules which they can accomplish at their own pace.
Compared to the United States, home schooling is a relatively new phenomenon in the Philippines. There are no official figures on the number of home schoolers in the country although there are some schools and institutions that offer a Home Study Program. Read more…

  1. This is NOT homeschooling.
    Apparently, Filipinos have a difficult time understanding the difference between home-study and homeschooling. They are actually worlds apart! I have no idea why it takes so long for Pinoys to get this!
