A Deeper Level

The Word of God is amazing. I have read the Bible all my life and yet there are still times when someone will take a very familiar passage and shed new light on it. Such is the case with Israel Houghton’s scriptural premise for “A Deeper Level”. In Luke 5 we read

“And Jesus said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets and you will catch a lot of fish” (Living Bible).

When God gave that scripture to Israel, a well known worship leader with several popular music CD’s, he knew that he was being called to take on a new CD project based on a fresh definition of what deeper meant. In order to find what God was trying to convey, Israel and the whole worship team went on a 40 day modified fast, fasting time, media and junk food. This book is a culmination of the experiences of the team as they walked through this discipline to discover their deeper level. It is well laid out with many excerpts taken from prayer journals kept by all the members of the worship team, “New Breed”. At the end of each chapter there are questions to ponder and commitments to consider. In fact this is not so much a book that you read but one that you make your way through. It also lends itself very easily to small group studies. If you are looking for something to kick start your devotional year I can recommend this book as an excellent resource.

(If you are wanting to enhance the experience you may purchase the resulting Audio CD “Deeper Level” available now in Christian bookstores.)
