WSJ has an article on the current fascination with how Finnish students test so much better than the rest of the world. While a test is only one measure, I couldn’t help but notice some of the possible reasons are often common to homeschooling: emphasis on basics, very little homework, less reliance on technology, no sports, proms etc…

High-school students here rarely get more than a half-hour of homework a night. They have no school uniforms, no honor societies, no valedictorians, no tardy bells and no classes for the gifted.
