Iâve been trying forever to get my guys to see the importance of exercise. We have a Y membership, but theyâd rather go to the teen lounge to hang out and play air hockey. Instead of doing laps when we go swimming they play dunk the brother or just sit and chit-chat with their friends. They moan and groan when we say letâs go for a walk. And, I canât blame it on video games â I have a tight reign on how much they can play. They actually are content to just read a book or draw, which is fine, but they need to exercise their bodies as well as their minds. So, whatâs a mom to do? Play tag, baseball, scooters, sure we tried it all, but it hasnât been enough. Well, have things changed around the Davis household. The boys have suddenly turned to fitness maniacs! What prompted the change? Two words. Wii Fit! This brilliant addition to the gaming world has ignited their fire to get fit. Now they see exercise is essential, fun, and exhilarating.
Wii fit combines exercise and balance, and allows everyone in the family to set personal fitness goals, and includes instruction and training in yoga, balance, aerobics, and general strength. Even when not on the Wii Fit youâll find my guys jogging in place, running around the house, doing push-ups, sit-ups, anything to help them reach their goals and bring their BMIâs to a normal range. It was well worth the $90 investment, and they are so busy with the Wii Fit their old favorite games such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy are now gathering dust. Will their exercise zeal continue? I think as they see results they will be motivated to continue a healthy lifestyle, with or without Wii Fit. And, if they do lose interest, they wonât be hogging it up so Gary and I will finally get our chance to use it.
