Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Ruark were married in 1984. They went on to have twenty children, all of whom they have homeschooled or are homeschooling, with the last one having been born about the time the book was published. This book is their story, including how they both grew up, met, courted, married, began their family, and have been raising twenty children, the oldest of whom himself married shortly before the book was published. Along the way they share their philosophy about business, politics (Jim Bob served two terms in the Arkansas State Legislature and made one run for the U. S. Senate), childrearing, family life, house building, and homeschooling. There is one chapter on “Organizational Tips That Saved Our Sanity.” And sprinkled throughout are “Words to Live By,” e-mail answers to questions, “Life Lessons,” and family recipes. Infused into the text is their faith in God. Some of their suggestions may not necessarily be applicable for smaller families, but one does not have to have twenty children to appreciate what they have accomplished and learn something from it.
