Honey for a Teen's Heart
There is nothing as disappointing as nestling together with your children on the couch for family “read-aloud” time, only to be quickly disappointed by another crappy book. Thankfully, this scenario has happened far less frequently for our family since I’ve made it my mission to weed out the waste-of-time reads. Honey for a Teen’s Heart is another great resource I’ve found on my quest for good books, and is well worth a prized spot on your bookshelf. The authors are insightful and honest, and provide wise council on how to select quality books for teenagers. I especially enjoyed their discussion on building a Christian world/life view. This well written chapter will help teens understand and recognize the many different worldviews presented in literature.
Adolescents certainly have some questionable books to choose from-you’ve seen some of the reviews I’ve done in the past year-there is a bounty of books to avoid. If it’s tricky for us adults, we know that it’s even harder for them. So, use the help that’s available. Teach your children what good literature is by surrounding them with it. They’ll develop a taste for excellence, and will quickly put aside those books which are unworthy, objectionable, or conflict with what they know as truth.
Honey for a Teen’s heart has amazingly expanded my reading list. Now if someone would kindly recommend a good book to help me get organized - I’ve got a whole lot of reading to get done!
